At just 12, she landed the lead role of Sara in the Italian production Sarahsara, portraying a 12-year-old Sudanese girl who swims from the Isle of Capri to Napoli in Italy. This early success marked the beginning of a fruitful career in acting.


Engelbrecht gained widespread recognition for her role as Lolly in the popular South African soap opera Isidingo. Her performance earned her the South African Film and Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Soap in 2010. Engelbrecht’s talent and versatility have seen her take on various roles across genres and platforms.

In the 1990s, Engelbrecht also presented the local youth television programme Take5. She continued to build her career with significant roles in films such as Bunny Chow and Death Race 3: Inferno. Her portrayal of Mickey in The Flyer and Nancy in Boy Called Twist further showcased her range as an actress.

International Success

Kim Engelbrecht’s international break came with her role as Sgt. Noma Banks in the Syfy series Dominion from 2014 to 2015. She then starred as Marlize DeVoe in the fourth season of The CW’s The Flash (2017–2018), gaining global recognition. Speaking about her experience on The Flash, Engelbrecht expressed her excitement and the pressure of joining a well-established series with a vast fan base.

In 2021, Engelbrecht took on the titular role in the South African crime drama Reyka, a performance that won her another South African Film and Television Award for Best Actress in a TV Drama and earned her a nomination for an International Emmy Award.
